Determination of Cd and Pb in seawater by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry with the use of hydrofluoric acid as a chemical modifier
نویسنده
چکیده
High concentration of added hydrogen fluoride converted the seawater chloride to the corresponding fluoride matrix, and the liberated hydrochloric acid could be removed during the drying step. The atomization of cadmium and lead could be performed at a relatively low temperature (;1300 8C) at which the vaporization of the fluoride matrix was relatively slow, and the corresponding weak background signals could be separated from the analytical signals in time. Experimental conditions for the determination of Cd and Pb in seawater in the presence of HF were optimized with the use of the a priori calculation of the limit of detection. The experimental limit of detection obtained for Cd and Pb were, respectively, 0.007 and 0.25 mg l for a 15-ml seawater sample (3s, 20 replicates). y1 The concentrations of Cd determined in a SLEW-1 estuarine water and a CASS-2 seawater were 0.020"0.002 and 0.016"0.002 mg l Cd, respectively, in good agreement with the 0.018"0.003 and 0.019"0.004 mg l Cd y1 y1 certified values (At the 95% confident level, 10 replicates). 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. Analysis of Low Lead and Cadmium Concentrations in Soil Extracts by Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry
An analytical procedure was derived to provide an accurate measurement of low lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) concentrations in soil extracts using graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS). Based on peak area measurements and with background correction, the use of 2% phosphoric acid as chemical modifier enables the GFAAS to give measurements of Pb and Cd concentration as low as 3 fLg ...

متن کاملDetermination of lead and cadmium in water samples by cloud point extraction prior to flame atomic absorption spectrometry determination
Pb and Cd in water samples were determined by cloud point extraction (CPE) with sodiumdiethyldithiocarbamate (DDTC) as the chelating agent and octylphenoxypolyethanl (Triton X-114) asthe surfactant prior to flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS) determination. The main factorsof affecting the extraction and detection processes were optimized. The preconcentration of 10 mL ofstandard soluti...
متن کاملUtilization of electrodeposition on a graphite probe modified with palladium in determination of lead by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry in water and environmental samples
In this work a rapid and selective procedure for separation and preconcentration of lead(Pb2+) before determination by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (ETAAS) wasdeveloped. The procedure is based on the electrodeposition on a graphite probe modified withpalladium. The lead was deposited from acetate buffer solution at pH 5.5. Various parameters, such as pH of solutions, deposition ...

A combined electrodeposition-ETAAS technique has been applied to the analysis of Pb, Cd, Co, Ni, Cr and Mn in biological samples in order to overcome interferences and to minimize sample pretreatment. It requires minimal sample preparation with the electrolysis process aiding partial decomposition of the organic matrix, adequate for the release and deposition of trace elements. In an initia...
